Quartermaster Radiant Agri Delicato who served under the pirate wizard Carly noticed Esmer standing alone at the Golden Ritz Gala. This event each January was hosted by Carly to celebrate the riches she had acquired the previous year.

Radiant walked over and asked Esmer to dance. He guided her around the dance floor and every so often his eyes scanned the crowd. When the song ended he placed her hand into the palm of a pirate named Sterg. Gently he pushed them out onto the dance floor. They were married a few weeks later. Calliope Esmer was born the following winter at the Red Wizard Capital.
