Archmagus Udor of the Marsh stood in the hallway of Kelpie Academy, eyes wide, staring at the broken HAM radio in Wizard on the Coast (WOTC)’s hands.
“If we could tune into the right frequency, this radio could be powerful. I will be working in the laboratory this evening. I have a solution in my old research books. Meet me back here on Monday evening.” Udor explained.
“Will do.” The wizard told Udor.
Udor became obsessed with the potential of the HAM radio.
He hurried to his laboratory on the northern edge of the academy.
Inside the lab, Udor worked late into the night. With crystals glowing around him for light, flipping through his countless documents of magical research. Udor was inspired by the radio to cast a spell and capture a force from the air—a powerful, highly conductive, and unstable frequency.
“This will upgrade those radios,” Udor thought, while containing the frequency into a mason jar for the radio holder to use.
“Behold, a Forgotten Frequency!” he exclaimed. The unstable, highly conductive frequency buzzed inside, sealed and ready.
The next morning, Udor stood in the academy’s courtyard for his Magical Science class. The baby wizards sat on stone benches.
Udor held up an empty mason jar.
“If you could trap any force—any idea, energy, memory, or spell—into this… what would it be?” he asked. “Don’t think small. Think dangerous. Think impossible. Then tell me how you’d contain it.”
The students murmured, thinking.
After class, as evening arrived, Udor met back with WOTC.
“Here you go,” Udor says, handing him the mason jar with the Forgotten Frequency.
“This will upgrade your radio.” WOTC took the jar, its glow bright.
“Thanks,” he said, “I can’t use it yet. Head Scholar Amir needs me back in the academy commons right away.”
Udor nodded. “Be careful with it, that tiny jar packs a punch.”
As Udor walked back to his laboratory, he encountered two new academy scholars in the hall.
Each introducing themselves. First Wizard #239, then Wizard #113.
“I remember you, Wild Mage,” Udor said. “You use to teach at the Magus Diggery School.”
Wild Mage laughed. “Good memory,” he said.
Hadrien tilts his head. “What were you working on?” he asked.
Udor smiles with excitment. “A broken HAM radio WOTC found. I captured a frequency inside mason jars to upgrade the radio.
Wild Mage raised an eyebrow. “A magic HAM radio, Like the ones we have at the Monday Magic Radio tower?”
Udor nodded.
Wild Mage and Hadrien host the Monday Magic radio show, where the HAM radios originate from.
“It’s a Forgotten Frequency,” Udor tells them. “It’s a bit unstable, but its a highly conductive energy I captured. It’s powerful—maybe dangerous. But it will definitely upgrade those radios”
“I have more jars filled with the frequency,” Udor said. “Enough for each HAM radio holder out there.”
“I’ll have the Academy send 1 jar per radio to each HAM radio holder tonight.” Udor explains.
After the shipment arrangements were made. Wild Mage and Hadrien promptly headed toward the Obsidian tower for this evenings episode of Monday Magic News Radio.
Eager to experiment with the HAM radio himself, Udor insisted the academy acquire two HAM radios for further research purposes.
“Combined with the Forgotten Frequency, these HAM radios will have more utility,” he said, eager to keep experimenting.
