Zelroth The Unnamed & The Goblet of Immortality

Chapter 1: The Brine

“Ahem” said a deep voice from the back of the cabin. Another sailor losing his sea legs. The quiet atmosphere from down below deck was eerie. The only sounds coming from children crying and the noises of others getting sea sick. “Shape up! These aren't the worst seas we’ve ever seen” grunted a veteran sailor helping his fellow seamen crouching down next to a bucket.

A young boy, not a day past 15 peeks his head out of a large barrel as the ship rolls up and down the ocean. It’s dark, so no one notices his gaze around the cabin. At terms with never seeing his parents again, the boy stowed away on the ship to avoid capture. Not a clue where the ship is headed, the boy struggles to stay sane in a barrel full of vomit and other disgusting fluids from days of hiding out.

All of a sudden a loud bang rings out. Then a crack! Water immediately starts flooding the cabin, dragging the sick sailor out into the Brine. Women scream and people begin to run and clutter the ladder up to the deck. “Get to the lifeboats” yelled the Veteran sailor as he picked up a young girl from the deck’s floor.

The young boy in the barrel know’s he needs to act fast or he will drown. He jumps out of the barrel in a foot of water and meets eyes with the Veteran sailor. The man scowls, but in the instance of the situation must ignore the boy. The boy looks up at the ladder. People pushing and trampling each other trying to get up to the deck. He know he will not make it.

The boy's mind goes silent, as if he is shellshocked. Coming to terms with an untimely death, alone in the ocean, not a clue in the world where he is.

All of a sudden, a large beam breaks and crushes several people adjacent to the boy, immediately bringing the boy back to reality. There is a rope tied around the barrel he was stashed away in. He quickly grabs the rope and ties it around his waist. The water was almost up to his waist at this point. Knowing this could be his only option to survive, he ties the other end of the rope onto the beam that had just crushed several people to death. Some of them still coughing bloody seawater as they drowned on the floor as the water swayed back and forth.

Ready to cast himself into the ocean, the boy hears the Veteran sailor yell out. “Wait Son!” The man grabs onto the back of the beam himself and hops onto the back, thrusting it out the gaping hole that keeps growing in the side of the ship.

Whoosh, sea water fills the boys mouth as scream ring out all around him. Pitch blackness surrounds the two. No one says a word for hours.
