The History of Kaiju Bay: From the Singularity to the Age of Blue Flame

A Historian’s Account of Isolation, Evolution, and Power

I. The Geographical Foundations and the Silk Curtain

In the chaotic wake of the Singularity — the event that sundered the Runiverse — the land now known as Kaiju Bay was severed from the wider world by a mystical and geological anomaly known as the Silk Curtain. Born from the fault line that rips through Mt. Kirama and spills into the Charybdis Sea, this curtain of mist and spirit energy created an impassable veil around the region.

Its mystical barrier ensured that for millennia, Kaiju Bay remained hidden and untouched, its people preserved in spiritual isolation.

II. The Koukotsu Mandate (幻骨令): The Law of Phantom Bones

After the Silk Curtain eventually fell, the ruling Council of Elders enacted the Koukotsu Mandate, a strict isolationist doctrine. It was named for the phantom bones of the ancestors, whose will and lingering presence were believed to shield the bay through the centuries.

Key Tenets:

  1. Charybdis Landing is the only port open to outsiders, heavily restricted.
  2. Foreigners may not leave the port without sanctioned escort.
  3. Tsuchido, the native animist faith, is to be preserved. Foreign doctrines are forbidden.
  4. Trade is tightly controlled, monitored by the Council.
  5. The Phantom Watch, elite enforcers, patrol borders and root out foreign corruption.
  6. Violators face exile to the Isle of Phantom Bones, or worse.

III. Foundations: Sakana Cove and Tsuchido

The first post-Singularity settlers founded Sakana Cove, nourished by sheltered cliffs and spirit-rich waters. From these beginnings rose a civilization deeply aligned with Tsuchido, a belief system rooted in animism, seasonal rites, and ancestor veneration.

The Spirit Villa:

Located in the bamboo forests east of the Cove, this sacred temple became the center of Tsuchido practice — housing relics, prophecies, and Spirit Priestesses who mediated between the mortal and the spiritual.

IV. Rise of Namihei and the Arashimaru Dynasty

The growing population established the hilltop capital Namihei ("Wave Peace"), overlooking the bay. The warrior-diplomat Lord Isamu Arashimaru united the clans and laid the foundation of Kaiju Bay’s internal governance. His descendants would reign during the Arashimaru Period, remembered for peace and cultural flourishing.

V. The Jade Fortress and the War of the Serpent’s Tide

To the east, the rival Lord Daigo Tenshiko erected the Jade Fortress, a defiant symbol built along the fault line. This sparked decades of political tension and ultimately a catastrophic civil war.

Outcome:

  • The Jade Fortress crumbled during a divine earthquake.
  • The Silk Curtain faltered for the first time.
  • The war ended, the Arashimaru line preserved, and the Tenshou Period of spiritual rebuilding began.

VI. The Ever-Watching Enchanter: Tengukensei of Mt. Kirama

Perched on the cliffs of Mt. Kirama, the enigmatic figure known as Tengukensei has lived through every epoch. A fallen celestial, a prophet of the wind, a recluse with cosmic foresight — he is both myth and memory. While the world below changes, he whispers to spirits and watches the bay, ever vigilant for imbalance.

VII. The Fall of the Silk Curtain and the Arrival of the Blue Wizards

In the Eisho Period, a seismic convulsion tore through the bay, shattering the Silk Curtain. The world rushed in.

The Blue Wizards:

  • Foreign sorcerers with gleaming robes and powerful arcana.
  • Preached a faith of logic, arcane law, and celestial order.
  • Built strange towers, offered glowing technologies.
  • Attempted to supplant Tsuchido with their dogma.

They were met with suspicion, resistance, and finally containment, their power curbed by the Phantom Watch, their ambitions turned to ash.

VIII. Modern Kaiju Bay: A Land Between Worlds

Though the Silk Curtain is gone, its memory lingers in law and belief. Kaiju Bay remains deeply tied to its roots:

  • Sakana Cove thrives as a cultural and spiritual anchor.

  • Namihei endures as a seat of governance and tradition.

  • The Jade Fortress ruins warn of ambition unbalanced by spirit.

  • Tengukensei still whispers from the cliffs, his fan catching the wind.

  • And the people still hear the phantom bones whispering beneath the soil.
