Illusionist Godfrey of the Court was once the most dazzling wizard in the land, his illusions so extraordinary they could turn even the grumpiest advisor into a wide-eyed child. But brilliance can breed resentment, and Godfrey’s downfall came the night he unknowingly offended the wrong man - a pompous duke with a temper as short as his moustache.
At a royal feast, Godfrey conjured the Eternal Rose mid-performance and, with a wink, presented it to the duke’s mistress. The gesture was harmless, but the duke’s fragile pride shattered like cheap glass. Within days, whispers of treason spread through the Court. The charges were baseless, but when powerful people want you gone, truth matters little. Banished under threat of execution, Godfrey fled.
Forced into exile, Godfrey traded his wizard’s robes for a diamond-patterned jester suit and embraced the role of a wandering entertainer, spreading joy and wonder through his magic.
On his travels, Godfrey met Ruby, a ladybug so large she could barely fit under the shade of a tree. Cast out for being “too big,” Ruby had been left to roam alone. Godfrey, who knew the sting of rejection, welcomed her warmly. “Nonsense,” he said, offering her a crumb of bread. “Big is brilliant.” From that moment, Ruby became his loyal companion.
Now, Godfrey and Ruby travel the land, dazzling audiences with extraordinary magic and filling towns with laughter and awe. But behind his jolly grin, Godfrey hasn’t forgotten the kingdom that betrayed him.
