Chapter 1: House Fangborne

The house of Fangborne predates the landmark event we’ve come to know as the Technological Singularity. This noble bloodline produced generations of kind faithful, generous, and servant leaders. As fate would have it, they were destined to become wizards when magic entered the world. When the new supercontinent formed, members of this house were the key wizards to infuse magic and technology that built up Imperium into a flourishing hub of trade, culture, and art. Their work gained the respect of wizards from all around the supercontinent, earning them a spot as one of the leaders in the Red Wizard Capital.

Generations have passed and a strong opposition was growing within the Red Wizard Capital that moved more and more in favor of selfish capital gains, corruption, and everything that all Fangbornes stood against. But when the volcano Sceena erupted and turned the once thriving city of Imperium into what we now know as the Black Sands, the political influence and economic power that Fangborne house once held took a hit as well. The enemies of the house saw this as an opportunity to seize control of the political landscape and that’s exactly what they did. This ushered in an Era of corruption and abuse within Red Wizard Capital, an era that the Fangborne house swore to put an end to.

Francisco Ratko de Loyola, the first-born son of Xavier Gonzaga de Loyola, was hearing this story of his lineage for the first time. The Loyolas are the last remaining members of the Fangborne house continuing the generational fight. The father and son, along with their cat Aloysius, just finished feeding the wolves, a ritual within the house that has been done for generations to avoid wasting food, and are on their way back home from Hedge Wizard Woods.

“But why do we have to fight Dad? It's not our fight anymore," Ratko asked his dad, a prominent opposition figure in Red Wizard Capital's current political landscape. "We’ve been fighting for generations and the other members of Fangborne house already gave up.”

“We don’t have to son,” Gonzaga said while leaving a confused look on his son's face. “But others do. We are in a privileged position where the hopes of many people in this realm are on us. It is a lot of pressure, but one day you will understand that pressure goes hand in hand with privilege. We all have our burdens Rakto, but it's how we choose to carry it that defines our destiny.”

Ratko was processing everything his dad just told him and didn’t know what to reply. Gonzaga knew that his son was destined for great things, just like every other member of the Loyola house. Gonzaga himself has been in the political arena of Red Wizard Capital for a long time now and recently he’s been doing well in political surveys leading up to the election, where Gonzaga is running for the head of Economy and Commerce. This is where he hopes to make a difference in Red Wizard Capital’s political scene, but Gonzaga’s true wish is to put an end to this political battle so Ratko won’t have to inherit his family’s burden.

Ratko is a promising wizard who always asks questions and thinks outside the box. Questions that Gonzaga himself is having a hard time answering. That’s why he plans to enroll Ratko at the Runiversity, to sharpen his skills and quench his thirst for knowledge. Ratko has always been a fan of nature and enjoys trips to Hedge Wizard Woods to play with the animals. Every trip, he picks up the longest stick he can find and carries it with him home so that he and Aloysius can play. But this trip isn’t like the previous ones he had with his dad.

As the two approached Kobold’s Crossroad, a group of mixed races seemed to be blocking the way. The one in front suddenly changed his stance and Gonzaga felt a surge of magic fill the area. Suddenly a ball of fire is flung in the father’s direction.

“It’s an ambush,” Gonzaga shouted. “Ratko run!”
