Artificer Zaros of the Bastion (#1822)

Owner: 0xCa19…BA3a

A Quiet Life

Artificer Zaros was the guardian of the Bastion. As the white wizards Artificer he was responsible for building the portals the other white wizards used to move around the Runiverse instantly. It was not an easy job. Monsters of all types, including some that were sadly all too human, wanted access to the source of the white wizard power so Artificer Zaros had been given the responsibility for running the Bastion Host that protected all their portals.

All the portals used by the white wizards were child portals of the great gate to the 7th realm that had been sealed generations ago. The child portals accessed the other realm and used the twisting nature of spacetime in the 7th realm to join two points across the Runiverse as if they were right next to each other.

Sometimes the inhabitants of the other realm saw this as an opportunity to escape so they tried to get through the gate but for all of living memory the Bastion Host Zaros designed had prevented anyone or anything from accessing it (other than those which possessed the proper access key).

It was a relatively quiet life maintaining everything which gave him plenty of time to visit the parties of the yellow hat wizards or the beautiful gardens of the green hat wizards. Or at least it did until one day some wizards, that had lost their minds to a lie about what was on the other side of the 7th gate, made their biggest (and for some of them last) mistake ever.

There was no warning, just as one white wizard opened a portal the gate fell and through the open unshielded portal came a giant tentacle. Zaros closed the portal as fast as he could but he could see from the readings it had been too late. He shut down the network stranding white wizards all over the place, some fell over trying to step into portals that were no longer there.

Rebalancing the network Zaros fed all the energy back into the single portal the tentacle creature had reached through. Without knowing how big it had been on the other side it was impossible to know if the resulting explosion would have killed it but for certain it would have been 10km smaller afterwards.

Next came the tricky bit, neither the 6th or 8th realms were ideal for instantaneous transport. There wasn’t much symmetry left in the 8th so multiple jumps would be needed for the same distance and the 6th was supposed to be quarantined as a buffer zone.

Using the 5th was supposed to require approved from the council but given they were probably all scattered weeks away from each other that would take too long to get. Making an executive decision he connected to the 5th realm and re-activated the network.

Immediately the white wizards from around the Runiverse started opening portals and returning to the tower. As he headed down to greet them he hoped that he wouldn’t get into too much trouble, there were some people on the council that he definitely wouldn’t want to make unhappy.
