From a young age, Aslan had been interested in the arcane arts. He'd seen countless wizards and witches practice their craft in his hometown of Wajeeta.
As a young boy, he fantasized about being able to use magic to do his bidding of all sorts - chop logs, clean out the house, milk the cows, protect his family and many more.
However, young kids were prohibited from participating in magic and Aslan could only admire magic practitioners from the benches. Not that a prohibition stopped Aslan regardless - he'd sneak into libraries, mage schools and passionately watched mages train. And he copied their chants, movements in hopes of being able to do what they did.
But it was not to be. Without another Archmage opening his chakras, he could not use a single ounce of his mana. Humans were born with an innate ability to use magic but almost all had no idea how to exercise it without the enlightenment of an Archmage.
