The Fall of the House of White Heather

In the far northeast of the Runiverse, beneath the high, whispering skies, there lies a land known as the Heath of Silent Winds. It is a realm of rolling moorland, clad in an endless sea of heather—violet, lavender, and white. The white heather is rare, and rarest still are those who find it, for it is said to grow only where the earth remembers both sorrow and courage. Here, in days long past, stood the House of White Heather, the pride of the Kooplings, a race born of the soil and stone, of root and branch, guardians of all that is wild and free.

The Kooplings were a people of quiet strength, unbending as the ancient oaks and fierce as the north wind. Their homes were woven into the earth, their halls carved into the hills, and their songs were as timeless as the turning of the seasons. In the House of White Heather, the Kooplings found their heart—a sanctuary of peace and power ruled by Targen, the Yellow Fox, whose cunning mind and stalwart spirit made him both king and keeper of the Heath. At his side stood Aurelia Sivelin, his queen, whose beauty was said to rival the first light of dawn. Together, they watched over their children: Prince Kalo, bright and bold, and Princess Ziara, whose laughter was as light as the morning breeze.

It is said that in those days, the Heath was alive with splendor. The winds carried the songs of the Kooplings far and wide, and the hills were filled with the hum of magic that bound their kind to the land. Yet even then, a shadow stirred on the edges of the moors, dark and subtle as a gathering storm. For the Heath was not immune to the ancient malice that lies hidden in all corners of the world, and the Kooplings, for all their strength, were not untouched by pride and folly.

Among the Kooplings was Kragor, Lord of the Heathered Hills, cousin to King Targen and a warrior of great renown. He was steadfast and fierce, yet there lingered within him a seed of ambition, buried deep but not forgotten. When whispers of a dark power began to spread, Kragor was among the first to seek it, driven by a hunger he could not name. In the depths of the northern moors, he found what he sought—a shadow older than the stars, a fragment of a forgotten age, a magic that promised dominion over all. And so, Kragor fell, his golden hues turned black as night, his proud visage twisted into the monstrous form of a bear. He returned to the Heath as Kragor the Black Bear, his heart consumed by malice, his strength wielded in the name of ruin.

With Kragor came others, those who were seduced by his power or broken by fear. They became the Dark Kooplings, their once-bright forms dimmed to ash and shadow. The Heath, so long a haven, became a place of strife as brother turned against brother, and the House of White Heather found itself besieged. King Targen, though valiant, was no match for the cunning cruelty of his cousin. In a single night of terror, Kragor led his forces against the House. Queen Aurelia and Princess Ziara fell defending the halls, their light extinguished beneath the shadowed blades of the enemy.

Wracked with grief but unbroken, King Targen gathered the last loyal Kooplings for a final stand upon the Hill of White Heather, where the rare flower grew most abundantly. It was said that the land wept as the battle raged, the moors darkened by blood and fire. In the end, Kragor was slain by Prince Kalo, who wielded the ancient Heatherblade, a weapon of the land itself. But the victory came at a terrible cost. Targen fell among the flowers, his lifeblood staining the white blooms, and Kalo, grievously wounded, vanished into the wilderness, his fate unknown.

With their king and queen gone, the House of White Heather was shattered. The Kooplings who survived scattered across the lands, their songs silenced, their halls abandoned. The Heath grew quiet, the winds carrying only echoes of what had been. Yet the white heather endured, growing still upon the hill where Targen fell, a silent memorial to the courage of the Kooplings and the cost of their fall.

But the tale does not end there, for the Kooplings, though diminished, are not lost. In the heart of the Heath, beneath the shadow of an ancient oak, there lies a burrow hidden from all but the keenest eyes. Here, it is said, dwells Kalo the Evoker, last scion of the House of White Heather. Though he is but a shadow of the prince he once was, Kalo keeps watch over the Heatherblade, the weapon that saved his people and might one day save them again.

For the Heath remembers. The land does not forget the songs sung upon its winds nor the courage of those who walked its hills. And though the Kooplings are scattered, the House of White Heather yet endures in the whispers of the moors, in the bloom of the rare white flower, and in the quiet hope that, when the shadow rises again, the Kooplings will return, and their songs will fill the skies once more.

[Dark Kooplings - Offshoot] (The family of Kragor after falling to darkness)

Explanation of the Family Tree:

  • Targen, the Yellow Fox (King of the House of White Heather) and his wife Aurelia Sivelin are the founders of the House of White Heather, ruling over the Heath of Silent Winds. They have two children, Prince Kalo and Princess Ziara.

  • Prince Kalo becomes the last scion of the House after the fall of the kingdom. He survives, later known as Kalo the Evoker. He watches over the Heatherblade, the weapon of the land, in hiding. It is said he may one day rise again to reclaim the House of White Heather.

  • Princess Ziara is slain during the fall of the house, defending her family and people.

  • Kragor, Lord of the Heathered Hills, is a cousin to King Targen. He is the instigator of the downfall of the House of White Heather, seduced by dark magic and ambition. After falling to darkness, Kragor is transformed into Kragor the Black Bear. He leads the Dark Kooplings, an offshoot of the original House of White Heather that has been corrupted and twisted by dark powers.

  • The Dark Kooplings are those who followed Kragor into darkness, shedding their once-bright forms for shadow and malice. They represent the fall of the Koopling race, which was once bound to the earth and its natural magic.
