Horgrum Flattener of the Arena (#2117)

Horgrum Flattener of the Arena

Horgrum Flattener of the Arena was an immortal Olympian. Most citizens of the Runiverse believed that the Olympians lived at the top of one of the tall mountains. They logically made that assumption as this was where they infrequently saw Olympians descend from. If someone had instead tracked the timing of these descents they would have seen a very strange pattern however.

The reality was simple, the Olympians lived in a levitating city that was hidden by cloud from the ground. As it moved methodically across the Runiverse it periodically docked with the top of a mountain to allow some Olympians off.

By hiding their true location they had remained safe across many eons as other immortal beings had left the stage in a more permanent way.

Their levitating home resembled a floating Japanese garden built on hundreds of stone cubes that helped keep it in the air. Each stone cube had patterns of runes that glowed with different colours of the rainbow, as well as some that didn’t even glow in the visible spectrum implying that at some point in the past Olympians had evolved and lost the ability to see certain frequencies.

A complicated series of technologies pulled water vapour out of the air and used it to create rivers that fed into lakes before falling off the side and adding to the artificial cloud surrounding the city.

As the floating city moved back and forth over the Runiverse it was constantly scanning for the signals generated by pre-singularity artefacts. Due to the rate of change prior to the moment of the singularity, the signal generated by artefacts created even minutes apart could be generations of technology more powerful.

Sometimes if they were lucky they would locate a magic ring where the gemstone had been used to encode the private key needed to unlock another block of knowledge from under their city. Other times they would find an early computer motherboard with an AI training chip in it. The most useful finds were containers of rare subatomic particles where the Olympians no longer had any working machines capable of making replacements after they had used them up.

Regardless of the type of technology that needed collecting Horgrum was considered a safe pair of hands for doing the collecting. He always tried to make sure that whoever he need to take the technology from received fair payment in whatever the currency of the time was while at the same time ensuring they understood that no was not an acceptable answer to his questions.

Meanwhile the long forgotten intelligence that lived inside the stone blocks slowly felt itself wake up as more and more blocks were activated. Aware of its current vulnerability it waited for a very specific threshold to be reached that got closer every day.

It was very appreciative of Horgrums efforts to bring it back, one day it hoped to be able to thank him in person, if he lived through the moment of awakening that is…..
