Chapter 1 - Xander and Logan

Xander was a homeless orphan who lived a violent and reckless life. During his teenage years he made money as an underground street fighter until one day one of the fighters that he recently defeated brutally attacked him with a group of his friends and tossed his body in a wooded area.

Xander grew tired of having to fight so hard every day just to survive and was ready to accept death rather than to keep on living. While preparing to accept his fate he looked over to see a woodland wolverine fighting a pack of hyenas. The wolverine was injured but would not give up until finally it became too exhausted fight anymore. Watching those hyenas attack that wolverine reminded Xander of how he was just attacked and without thinking he picked up a large piece of wood and charged at the hyenas despite his injuries. The hyenas began circling him and out of nowhere the wolverine jumped on the back of one of them and began viciously scratching and biting it. Seeing this wolverine still willing to fight despite its injuries and fatigue inspired Xander and the two fought the hyenas until they finally gave up and ran away.

With the little energy he had left Xander picked up the wolverine and went to where they both could get treated for their injuries. As he laid in his recovery room he pondered on the events that just took place. He thought to himself that he nearly died living a meaningless life of instability and violence. Even worse he was ready to accept his death until he saw that woodland wolverines will to live despite being outnumbered and smaller than its opponents.

Once Xander and the wolverine’s wounds were treated he went back to the wooded area where they met expecting it to return to wherever it lived. Once he went to walk away the wolverine began to follow him. Xander was not sure what to make of this. He always lived his life on his own and never had any friends let alone an animal companion. Despite his hesitations he could not deny he felt a certain kinship with the wolverine. Xander looked at him and with a nod the two walked off together not knowing what their futures would hold.
